This month, we shine a light on sickle cell disease (SCD) and the individuals and families living with it every day.
Sickle cell disease is an inherited blood disorder that can cause severe pain, anemia, infections, and other serious health complications. Awareness and understanding can help build support, encourage early care, and remind those living with SCD that they are not alone.
Let’s use this month to learn, listen, support, and spread awareness about sickle cell disease. ❤️

📚💙 The Heart of a Book Buddy💙📚
Princeton Evans, an 8th grader, showed his creativity and kindness by creating a beautiful ABC book for his Book Buddy! Each letter was paired with wonderful artwork, making this special book a true labor of love. 🎨🔤📖
Book Buddies are a wonderful Oakdale tradition that allows our older students to encourage younger readers, share their talents, and build meaningful connections through reading. We love seeing Rockets making a difference in the lives of their Book Buddies! 🚀❤️

📚🎉 Celebrating Readers! 🎉📚
Our 5th–8th grade Rockets celebrated their summer reading accomplishments with a fun lunch featuring Chick-fil-A nuggets and all the fixings! 🍗🥳
Each student completed two BINGOs on their reading cards, meaning they read an impressive 9–10 books each! 📖👏 Way to go, Rockets! 🚀What a fun way to celebrate reading and encourage our students to keep those pages turning all summer long! ☀️📚
We love how Mrs. Jones knows exactly how to nurture a love of reading all year long and works hard to keep our Rockets engaged, inspired, and excited about books! 📚✨A special shoutout to Mrs. Clark, who is always ready to jump in and help with library parties—and even makes cookies to make them extra special! 🍪❤️
Way to read, Rockets! Keep turning those pages! 🚀📖

🌱🦋 Growing, Learning & Exploring! 🦋🌱
Our students in grades 4–7 spent some time learning about our school garden, the amazing monarch butterfly migration, and getting a preview of all the exciting things we’ll be doing in the garden this school year! 🌿🐛🦋
A special thank you to the wonderful Oakdale families who cared for our garden throughout the summer! Because of their time and dedication, our garden is thriving and ready for a new year of learning and exploration. ❤️
We can’t wait to see what our Rockets discover, grow, and learn this year! 🚀🌱

🚀❤️ PTC: GET INVOLVED AT OAKDALE! ❤️🚀
Our first PTC (Parent Teacher Club) meeting of the year is Tuesday, August 1 at 8:30 am in the Fine Arts, and we’d love to see some new faces! Especially if you’re a newer Oakdale family, this is a great way to learn more about our school and find a way to get involved. 🏫✨
The PTC is made up of parent volunteers who want to see Oakdale be the best school it can be. They help plan and coordinate activities that benefit our teachers, staff, students, and families throughout the school year. ❤️
You don’t have to be a longtime Oakdale family or have tons of free time to make a difference. If you’re willing to volunteer and want to be part of making Oakdale an even better place for our Rockets, we’d love to have you join us! 🚀
Whether you can volunteer regularly, help with a special event, donate supplies, or lend a hand when needed—every bit of help is important! Be part of the PTC and help make a difference at Oakdale! ❤️💙
