Justin Colon, author of Quaken, visited Oakdale on our 67th day of school! 📚✨ He brought incredible energy and kept the crowd entertained as he shared his journey to becoming an author and what it takes to write a children’s book. Students loved the audience participation as he walked them through the writing process in a fun and memorable way!

🚢❄️ Titanic Week in 3rd Grade! ❄️🚢
This week, our students dove into a historical fiction book about the Titanic—and then took their learning a step further with some chilly hands-on experiments!
🧊 Students put their hands into ice-cold water (about the same temp as the North Atlantic!) to feel just how freezing it was the night the Titanic sank.
🦭 Then we explored how animal blubber helps marine mammals survive extreme cold. Students rubbed their hands with Crisco and dipped them into the icy water again to test out the insulating “blubber.”
Lots of shocked faces, lots of laughter, and lots of learning!
