Red iron for new addition

It’s hard to believe that, even though it’s only mid-June, we’ve already been out of school for over a month. I hope you’ve had the chance to settle into the slower pace of summer and that the weather has cooperated with your pool, lake, or beach plans.

I'd like to share a quick update on the construction. The last day of school was a Friday, and by Monday morning, crews were already deep into demolition. Things have been moving quickly—and a little chaotically—ever since.

We have red iron and truces for the new addition in place. This addition will add 6 classrooms, flex / meeting space, and a large commons area, and it will allow 4th grade to join 5th grade for a true intermediate school.

It's hard to imagine from the way it looks now, but the updates to the middle school are starting to come together. We have gutted a significant portion of the east side to create a dedicated science area. When we return, we'll have 3 connected science classrooms with storage.

The most dramatic change is in the cafeteria. We are opening that area up to make a bigger space, and it sure does. You may not recognize it;

The only part of the project impacted by the weather has been the canopy construction. Rain has put us a few weeks behind schedule there. Fortunately, this delay isn’t critical for the start of school. However, it has made access to the building a bit tricky. Hopefully, things will dry out soon, so that portion of the work can get back on track.

Speaking of drying out. Look at this little guy we found during excavation. I don't know why he's holding a turtle.

The turtle was returned gently to the nearby creek.

I'll share more updates in a few weeks.
