Dear Parents,

The influenza wave seems to be ramping up this week. Our numbers have increased in the last few days, but still a low percentage of our student/staff population.   As a reminder, we participate with the school surveillance initiative (Oklahoma City-County Health Dept. Epidemiology Services) for monitoring influenza-like illnesses (ILI). Further contact made with the State Dept of Health for resource information as well.  ILI (influenza-like illness)is defined as a fever of 100 F or greater PLUS a cough OR sore throat, in the absence of another known cause.

Please alert the school by email or phone if your student has these symptoms. Our goal is to maintain a healthy and safe environment at Oakdale in which our students can maximize their time and opportunities in the classroom. Please help us by reinforcing healthy habits at home, recognizing symptoms of the flu (fever  > 100 F, cough sore throat, body aches, headache, chills, fatigue), keeping your child home if he/she is sick, and reporting flu symptoms to the teacher/office when absent. Please remember that students should be fever free for 24 hours without fever reducing medication prior to returning to class.

Thank you,
